Things You Should Not Store in the Bathroom
By Acme Homes 9-22-2021
At Acme Homes we ensure to build dreamy bathrooms that are both functional and enjoyable to relax in. Just visit our gallery for a peak at what we mean. But while the bathroom can be a great place to store toiletries, it is not an ideal place for all things. Here are a few items that you should not store in your bathroom long term.
Photos
Dotting precious family photos and pictures of vacation memories around your house can make it feel more like home. And the bathroom can have some nice real estate to display those photos. The problem is that even a well framed picture is susceptible to the humidity levels in a bathroom. Moisture can find its way in between the glass of your photo frame, warping your photos and providing a breeding ground for mold. For this reason, it's best to keep your cherished pictures safe and hang them outside the bathroom.
Linens
Many bathrooms include storage of some sort. Extra cabinets and closets can seem like the perfect place to store extra towels and linens, but the reality is that it is not. Towels and linens are absorbent and tend to take on the moisture that a bathroom receives on a daily basis. This can leave your linens smelling musty. If you have a hallway closet, this is a superior place to store guest towels and linens in order to keep them fresh.
Toothbrushes
But if you brush your teeth in the bathroom, why would you need to store it somewhere else? Well most people store their toothbrushes on the counter when they are done with them. The problem with this is that the bathroom counter is usually next to the toilet. And everytime you flush, bacteria can be stirred and land on your toothbrush. Yuck! That’s why, if you do not already, it is wise to store your toothbrush away in a medicine cabinet. And if that is not an option, then you should consider keeping your toothbrush somewhere other than the bathroom entirely.
Painted Furniture
The addition of a beautifully painted vintage armoire can add interest and a classic elegance to your bathroom, but painted wooden pieces like that can be at serious risk of damage in a humid environment. Because wood expands and contracts in relation to varying humidity and temperature changes, this can cause the paint to splinter and peel in response. Save these beautiful pieces for other areas of your home instead.
